Would you like a healthy pregnancy?

For over 3000 years Traditional Chinese Medicine has promoted specialised treatment for pregnant women and after birth. Pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal recovery are viewed in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a window of opportunity to enhance the woman’s health and well being. Acupuncture is becoming more widely used and recommended by midwives and antenatal clinics as it can be used in a variety of ways to promote foetal and maternal health.

I offer monthly well mother, well baby sessions as well as labour preparation treatments. Acupuncture can be used 3-4 weeks prior to the due date to prepare the body for labour. This series of treatments prepare the pelvis and cervix for when labour begins.

Nausea in pregnancy

One of the most well known uses of acupuncture in pregnancy is for reducing both the severity and incidence of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

Research undertaken in 2002 has shown that:“Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for women who experience nausea and dry retching in early pregnancy.” Smith C, Crowther C, Beilby J. (2002)

“Pregnancy outcome following women’s participation in a randomised controlled trial of acupuncture to treat nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy”. Complement. Ther Med. 10(2):78-83

Breech babies

The turning of breech babies using the gentle technique of moxibustion (use of gentle heat on acupuncture points), has been demonstrated (following research in Italy) to have a significant effect in this situation and can be undertaken between 34–36 weeks.

What people say

I went into labour on Monday evening and successfully managed to have a natural birth Tuesday! I’m so pleased and was so relieved to avoid another section.

Thank you so much for your help and support. My husband and I practiced the acupressure points frequently from Sat evening to Monday. Or it may have been just chatting to you, relaxing and feeling I couldn’t do anymore to help move things along naturally… either way, thank you for your part.

We now have a perfect baby after a really great labour and birth, I couldn’t have hoped for better!

EW 2013

I had suffered two miscarriages and was anxious about getting pregnant again in case it happened again. I had acupuncture sessions with Angela before trying to get pregnant again and I’m really glad I did as it helped me to relax and feel as if I could do something to help my body get ready for pregnancy. Angela focused on improving my blood flow to improve the chances of the pregnancy working out. She also gave me a relaxation CD to listen to to help me prepare myself mentally and emotionally. I am now 14 weeks pregnant and everything is going well. The past two pregnancies did not last beyond 8 weeks so I am feeling much more positive and would recommend acupuncture sessions with Angela to anyone in a similar situation.
